After almost 15 years renting apartments in various neighborhoods of Madrid, we’ve purchased a place outside of the city. A new home is more than a creative spark, it’s a creative fire. There’s so much potential! There’s also so much to do that it’s overwhelming. Reformations, paint colors, furniture, landscaping… all of these present fun creative problems to solve, but these things take time (and money). At the same time, I’m still working through my feelings about the change of lifestyle from city to town, such as worrying about maintaining a larger home, making friends with the neighbors, keeping up with cultural activities in the city, etc.
However, as scary as change can be, deep down I believe that we should make the most of the one life we have and embrace new experiences and ways of living. It’s important to make the best of it, wherever we are; it’s the only way to grow. We purchased the home in the rainy winter and moved in the spring just as the town began to bloom with flowers. First it was irises and lilacs, then jasmine and roses. When the roses bloomed, including in our own back garden, I really began to feel like I had come to a new beginning and not an ending. That positive feeling of unlimited possibilities is truly exciting.
Bloom Where You’re Planted
Sometimes we grow and change out of necessity and sometimes out of desire. For my readers who are looking to be more creative, in whatever way you wish, how can you grow? What do you already have to work with? What is it that you need? Is it knowledge, materials, inspiration? What are the things holding you back? All of these will be explored in future posts from A Creative Spark, so I hope you’ll subscribe to follow along.
In the spirit of growth and possibility, I made this illustration for Founding Members. You’ll get a link to download a high resolution file of this artwork to print out yourself as a token of my gratitude when you subscribe as a Founding Member.
